![]() Taking a break is the one thing I put off until tomorrow. But if you feel like you need a break-that is one thing you should procrastinate. Don’t give in to the immediate gratification that is whispering in your ear. Now-these could be signals that you need some time off-and those signals might be right. Don’t really want to hammer on a project? I hammer on the project.ĭon’t really want to get up and get out of bed? I GET UP AND GET OUT OF BED. Don’t really want to work out? I work out. Even if I am just going through the motions- I GO THROUGH THE MOTIONS. How do I handle those days when I’m just not “feeling it”? Those days when I am tired or worn out or just sick of the grind… What do I do on those days? I GO ANYWAY. And that tool might be fists, but it might be guile. I am going to battle and I am going to fight and I am going to use every tool I have to crush my enemy. A fire in your mind that says: I am going to win. I view aggression as an internal character trait. I don’t view aggression as an outward attitude. If I think the enemy is going to flank me-too late-I’m already flanking them. If I think they are going to seize a piece of terrain-I am going to be there waiting for them. If I think the enemy is going to attack me-I’m going to attack them first. You are going to outthink and outmaneuver the enemy. ![]() What it does mean is that you are going to get after it. It doesn’t mean you engage in attrition warfare-no. It doesn’t mean you go straight forward into conflict without thought and without reason. It doesn’t mean you confront people, physically or mentally, head-on and without a tactically superior plan. Discipline Equals Freedom PDF BookĪs I always point out-this doesn’t mean you walk around with your chest puffed out ready to bang heads with everyone around you. But being aggressive-that means you are ready to attack. And yes: That means creating or controlling a situation as much as you can. You want to be dictating what happens, not responding to it. You certainly have to be proactive in the world. Proactive and aggressive are similar and they are both good. Fight weak emotions with the power of logic fight the weakness of logic with the power of emotion. When your feelings are screaming that you have had enough, when you think you are going to break emotionally, override that emotion with concrete logic and willpower that says one thing: I don’t stop. Your anger, your frustration, your fear, to push further, to push you to say one thing: I don’t stop. When it just doesn’t make any logical sense to go on, that’s when you use your emotion. And when one fails, you need to rely on the other. Because emotion and logic will both reach their limitations. It takes both emotion and logic to reach your maximum potential, to really give everything you have, to go beyond your limits. And it actually takes two opposing forces to bring it to life. You can even control your emotions: “How can I stop missing that girl or guy or whoever broke up with me?” STOP MISSING THEM. “How can I stop eating sugar?” STOP EATING SUGAR. “How can I work out consistently every day?” WORK OUT CONSISTENTLY EVERY DAY. “How can I wake up early in the morning?” People ask me, “How do I get tougher?” BE TOUGHER. You are the machine, and you can control it. What I do know is this: You, your mind, the thing that is reading and comprehending these words right now, that IS YOU. Or your brain or your heart or some other conjured-up place. And I’m not going to go philosophical on what that means and where the “YOU” actually is -whether it is a soul.ĭiscipline Equals Freedom PDF Book by Jocko Willink Name of BookĪbout Book – Discipline Equals Freedom PDF Book Sure, we are physical beings, and we must obviously embrace our physicality.
